Ductless AC Systems – Important Pointers

Ductless AC systems also known as the ductless mini split is a ductless air conditioning system whereby an outdoor compressor is linked to individual room units to control the room temperatures. Before installing this system, it is important to understand what it is and how it works. Here we offer you some key tips you need to understand about this device.

How Ductless Air Conditioners Work

The ductless AC system works in the same principle as the conventional system when it comes to cooling the air. However, unlike the conventional model that uses a central cooling device within the house and distributes the cool air to other rooms through ducts, the ductless system has one external cooling unit then the cooled air is bowed directly to the specific rooms.

Simply put, the system has an indoor unit with an evaporator coil and blower fan and an outdoor unit with a compressor, condenser coil and fan. These two units are linked with copper refrigerant tubing and electrical wiring. The system’s outdoor compressor device pumps a liquid chemical refrigerant through the tubing of the refrigerant to the indoor unit’s coil. This liquid chemical evaporates removing the heat and humidity from the incoming air which is then cooled and pumped into the indoor units.

Single and Multi-zone Units

These systems come in two variations which include the single zone units and the multi zone units. The single zone units have one indoor unit which corresponds to one outdoor compressor through a single small pipe. The multizone unit on the other hand has one outdoor compressor powers multiple indoor units, each separately controlled by a wireless remote control.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Ductless AC

The ductless system has the following advantages. First of all, the unit is energy saving especially due to the single cooling unit compared to the traditional multiunit. The system is easy to install since no ductwork means less installation work. Additionally, no need for indoor wiring and the indoor devices can perform as a décor.

On the other hand, the following disadvantages are synonymous with the system. For instance, the system is more expensive to install and maintain than the traditional system. The systems are not especially conducive to room design and not appealing to the eye.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the ductless air conditioning system provides you with more benefits compared to the conventional system as it saves you energy costs and equipment installation.
