Finally, spring is here and the sun is out again. And in a few months, we will be at the height of summer and it will be time to fire up your house’ cooling system once again. But is your air conditioning system in decent shape? Not to worry, though. We have a quick AC repair guide for those among you who would want to tinker with their HVAC systems this summer.
The First Step is Troubleshooting
The first step of solving any performance problems that you are experiencing with their cooling unit – whether it is not turning on or cooling your house fast enough – is undertaking a comprehensive troubleshooting stint. If done thoroughly and well-enough, this can save you a lot of time and money while helping you steer clear of an expensive repair bill from your local repair company.
Check Your AC’s Thermostat Settings
The thermostat should always be set at a few temperatures lower than the current prevailing temperatures to kickstart a cooling cycle. Ensure that the machine is not accidentally set to ‘vacation’ or ‘hold’ setting that could be impeding its smooth operation.
Check Power
The first step in any AC repair guide should be making sure that the thermostat is powered before even trying to get into the nitty gritty of other components. Make sure that the power switch of the equipment’s air handler is not turned off and the adjacent power switch that turns on the outdoor component is not in the “OFF” position. Also, check your home’s main electrical panel to rule any chances that the circuit breakers ( fuses) of the mains supplying current to your AC unit has tripped or blown.
Check the Condition of the Air Filter
A clogged filter can hamper the performance and smooth operation of your air conditioning unit since it restricts smooth airflow and restricts cool air from reaching the furthest part of your home. What’s more, it could also freeze up your AC system’s cooling, interfering with the performance further. Replace a dirty filter with a clean and ( if possible) a new one according to the specifications on your manufacturer’s manual.
In Closing
If these simple steps in this AC repair guide don’t solve the problem, then it could be time to call up your local HVAC repair company to try and diagnose/solve the issue further.
